Family Tradition
Timeless Kitchen Design was created as a line of kitchen cabinetry based on my father's furniture. Bryce Ritter continues to operate today, making vanities, kitchen tables and all other types of furniture for the home. Visit him at bryceritter.com
Part of our design philosophy is to include the use of free-standing cabinetry in our kitchen layouts. Bryce and I partner on many projects as he furnishes the kitchen with custom cupboards, tables and seating.
And the family tradition continues at Uphome, a fantastic shop operated by my mother, Linda Ritter. The store offers unique home furnishings from the US and abroad as well as jewelry and other perfect holiday gifts.

In Print: "A Kitchen Worthy of the House"
The Winter 2008 "Early Homes" magazine by Old House Interiors features a great article titled "A Kitchen Worthy of the House" by Mary Ellen Polson. The article discusses several schools of thought regarding kitchen design for old homes - including a few of my own thoughts. Mary Ellen interviewed us about our approach to kitchen design and featured a few beautiful shots of our work. I always thought this was a beautiful magazine. It is a great resource for anyone interested in period homes or "period-inspired" homes.

Real Vintage #1:
Vintage is a commonly used term today as it applies to interiors - but this kitchen is truly "VINTAGE". One of our "potential" clients recently purchased a stately old home with many original details intact. We may be designing and building a new kitchen around many of the old fixtures.
The stove is still functional though it leaks. The new homeowner is considering having it restored and using it. The old icebox refrigerator was used up until recently. Original built-in cabinetry has been well cared for and will be left in place. An old gas lamp still stands next to the range. It is a great space....check back for updates.
For anyone that is interested: The range and icebox may be available for sale - please contact us through our website if interested.

Kitchen Untouched for 100 years.....
OK, I've been a slacker. Time to be more diligent about my postings.
Today I had the chance to see an incredible home that was recently purchased by a potential client. The house, located in suburban Philadelphia, has been well maintained but relatively unchanged since the turned of the century...the last century.
As kitchen specialist, I was blown away by what I saw in the kitchen.
Check back for updates. I will be posting photos as the project proceeds.

Beautiful Hardware
Great cabinetry needs great hardware. This is why most of our hardware is made by hand by local blacksmiths in Pennsylvania. Our standard hinge is a "butterfly, rattail" hinge shown on this image. We also offer custom pulls and handles for appliances. We offer all hardware for sale - please contact us for current pricing.

Hide that refrigerator!
The inventive folks at Subzero design the 700 Series refrigerators so that they can be fully integrated into the cabinetry. This allows us to create face panels and enclosures so that the refrigerator appears to be an antique armoire, pie safe with punched tin panels or even an old-fashioned ice box. Period or reproduction handles complete the illusion. Visit the Subzero website for details: http://www.subzero.com/IntegratedRefrigeration/700TCRefrigerator
The new blog....
Obviously, we are still under construction at the moment. We hope for this blog to be a place where we can discuss our current projects and other kitchen design issues. Please check back as we complete our blog design.
